ECO CHURCH at St John’s Church Beckenham
The Eco Church programme equips churches in England and Wales to care for creation. At St John’s Church Beckenham we believe that God has given us the task of caring for his creation.
St John's is committed to the Eco Church movement and launched our 3-year Eco Church Strategy in autumn 2024.
Eco Church is a learning community of churches of all shapes and sizes open to all denominations. It provides a framework to support churches and its leadership to take practical action on caring for God’s earth, through the Eco Church survey. The survey covers five key areas of church life:
Worship and teaching
Buildings and energy
Land and nature
Community and global engagement
Lifestyle
Our buildings and teaching are already meeting some of the requirements but we have ambitious plans to bring the rest of our church operations up to the same level and action is underway.
We are blessed with fantastic grounds, a mixture of modern and traditional buildings and a committed team which gives us a solid platform to make a positive difference.
We are encouraging our congregation and community to view their decisions and actions through the lens of Eco Church to try and be as sustainable as possible.
We commit ourselves to action and prayer in this time of climate and ecological crisis.
If you would like more information about our Eco Church Strategy or how you can get involved, please ask the church office to put you in touch with our Eco Church team.
